Rockland is a beautiful city in Knox County, Maine with a population over 7,000 as of the 2010 census. This popular tourist destination is a departure point for the Maine State Ferry Service to the islands of Penobscot Bay: Vinalhaven, North Haven and Matinicus. Located on Route 1 and Maine Routes 17 and 73, the city is a regional service and retail center.
The community maintains the working waterfront characteristic of its glory days as a major fishing port. Lobster is a significant portion of the business and culture in Rockland, which hosts the annual Maine Seafood Festival. It is held in the waterfront park, not far from where ships were being built in the 1940’s.
